Expiration: 30-Apr-22
Level of Information: Basic, Intermediate
Individuals in the Black / African American, Hispanic / Latino, and Asian American populations are an example of those who come from unique racial and cultural backgrounds that impact how they pursue and receive medical care. Additionally, race and racism factor into the services available and provided to these individuals in the healthcare system. This multidisciplinary presentation will provide an overview of the current research on working with these MS patient populations and confront the racial disparities that exist in each one. Strategies for developing cultural competence and fostering race equity will be taught to broaden the scope of practice and awareness of the MS healthcare professional when working with populations from different racial and cultural backgrounds and the impact of MS.
